Q: What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine focuses on the optimal functioning of the entire body and its organs. Using a systems-oriented approach, it addresses the underlying causes of disease along with an understanding of the conditions and history in which the disease manifested. Genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors all have a direct influence on long-term health and chronic health issues.
Q: What approach does Desire To Live Now use?
Tracey Mixon uses the approach that focuses on nutrition, hormone therapy, peptide therapy, gut health, and detoxification. This approach successfully addresses the most common conditions in our culture such as– fatigue, depression, weight gain, hormonal issues, sleep disorders, and digestive problems – as well as a host of other health issues. Lab tests are used to determine the required support needed to rebalance your body back to its normal state.
Q: What is the success rate for someone who suffers from an autoimmune disease?
It depends on the diligence of each person in following their daily protocol and making lifestyle changes that only they can implement. Tracey is committed to assisting and empowering each client to take back their health and experience life-changing results if they are committed to doing so.
Q: How long does it take to get results?
Results vary with each person. Some people feel dramatic improvement within the first month. Others may take a bit longer. Our standard programs are for a minimum of 3 to 6 months. Remember, your condition didn’t develop overnight. Years of stress and illness take their toll and a proper amount of time is necessary to restore function. On average it takes one month of repair for each year you’ve suffered from a specific problem.
Q: What type of lab tests do you use and how many are required?
We employ a variety of labs to determine the root cause of a person’s health issues. The number of labs recommended will depend on your individual situation, including the number of issues you struggle with and the length of time you have been experiencing them. The range is 1-4 lab tests.
Depending on the type of test, the samples required are blood, saliva, urine, or stool. Many of the tests can be completed through easy test kits that are self-administered in the comfort of your own home. Tracey may also order blood testing that may be drawn in her clinic or at lab testing companies such as Quest, LabCorp, or CPL.
Q: How long does it take to get the lab results?
Blood work results are available in 2-3 business days. Other specialty lab results could take up to 2 to 4 weeks after your specimens are mailed to the lab. After ALL, the labs are evaluated, you will be contacted to schedule a follow-up appointment to review your results. Tracey will review your labs with you and recommend a wellness protocol at that time.
Q: Can I order my own test kits through laboratories, or can my regular doctor order the lab tests for me?
We will accept blood work from your regular doctor that has been performed within 60 days. We will email you a list of the specific labs that are needed for your evaluation.
Whether or not we will accept outside specialty labs will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Q: How much do the lab tests cost?
Blood work could possibly be covered by your insurance. If you pay cash for your blood work the cost can range from $100-$300.
The lab test kit costs are about $200-$600 each.
Q: How long are the consultations?
The free consultation is 15 minutes. Your first appointment will be in the office and is 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments can be in the office or virtual and are about 30-60 minutes.
Q: Can I purchase supplements from sources other than Desire To Live Now?
Tracey will give recommendations and dosages on supplement brands that she is familiar with and that are high quality from companies that are dedicated to research.
If you want to do your own research on different supplements, you are welcome to do so, but we do not provide any other recommendations, nor advice on any brands we are not familiar with. If you purchase supplements from other manufacturers, please research them carefully.
Q: Does my program fee include appointments, test kits, and supplements?
All programs (Autoimmune Overcomers & GI Pillars of Health) include labs, test kits, baseline supplements, and appointments.
Q: How much do the wellness programs cost?
Hormone evaluations and Wellness assessments are $220 dollars not including labs and treatment. Follow up appointments are about $150.
Q: What types of payment does Desire To Live Now accept?
Payment can be made by check, credit card, or cash.
Q: How much time do I have to cancel or change a scheduled consultation?
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please notify our office a minimum of 24 hours before your scheduled time, or you may be charged a fee of $30.00 for that appointment. As a courtesy, we will email/text to confirm your appointment one day in advance.
Q: Does Desire To Live Now take insurance?
Desire To Live Now accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas insurance for covered appointments. Lab companies do accept insurance, therefore, your blood work may possibly be covered by whatever insurance you may have.
Q: How often should I retest?
For hormones, blood work is required every 90 days initially until levels are regulated and then labs only have to be repeated every 6 months.
For test kits, retesting is optional but it is recommended to retest at the 6-12 month mark to measure improvement and adjust protocols if needed. Once a client has achieved their desired health results, we recommend annual testing to ensure your body systems continue to function at their best.
Q: Can I email Tracey with any questions/concerns?
Tracey is happy to answer brief questions that you may have about your protocol, symptoms, or concerns at email@example.com. If it is a complex question that requires a lot of back and forth communication, Tracey will recommend scheduling a 15-minute consult.
